Feb 05, 2018 · I have the 4K version, currently running a dual boot windows/ubuntu and I can't hear any coil whine when plugged into AC, even when I stick my ears close to the left side of the keyboard. I do however get the fan issue (fan starts running when plugged in AC), much more pronounced on Windows than Ubuntu.

Impedance can vary and if the tolerances vary too much then the results could cause coil whine. You might have tested a series of boards with the same issue. The coil whine is an audible pop with each frame as the power circuitry sends it's voltage to the gpu parts that need it. The higher the fps, the more you'll hear that pop until it goes from a low rumble to a buzzing bee to a screaming half-crushed rat at 120+ fps, to downright deafening at 200~300fps.

My 980Ti (an evga FTW card) also had some coil whine, but the fans were also a lot louder when gaming on that card so I wouldn't hear it much unless it was a menu running at like 2000fps or something like that.This is from wiki.. Nov 21, 2020 · Yesterday I installed Sapphire 6800xt reference card and I was expecting a bit of coil whine in benchmarks. When I launched games and pushed the graphics with unlimited FPS I was surprised quiet a lot, coil whine was still there. The coil whine noise is definitely louder than fan noise (maxes at 1600RPM in stock setting). Coil whine is not normal. The one and only time I've had to deal with it was when I put a newer GTX card in a system with a 500 watt PSU (a cheap pos PSU) and the coil noise would sound like running water when a game would start.

Putting it at 71% for me makes it very quiet and reduces performance by about 2% at 50 fps and 10% at 120 fps (the lower it goes, the less it is affected). Also, the coil whine of these cards is subtle enough and high-frequency enough that it is completely blocked out by closed-back headphones anyway. Every single gen you get people complaining about coil whine and it doesn't matter if it's Nvidia or AMD, there will always be people affected. It's classic confirmation bias at play. Someone is unfortunate to get a card with coil whine and goes off the forums and reads some other threads where people have coil whine with same/similar cards.

Mar 9 @ 4:23pm. Coil sound is pretty common with some NVIDIA cards. It happens when the card is processing an extreme high number of frames per second. I suggest you to limit frame output at least to the frequency of your monitor and / or enabling vsync.

May 13, 2015 · Only GPU load causes the coil whine, about mid-way through the systematic ruling out of parts I ran Prime95 and LinX to try and see if it was CPU load, but these tests were whine free. As with all coil whine, my first thought was the GPU, it seemed to be coming from that area. So I switched to another identical 290X and it presented the same issue.

I usually buy budget GIGABYTE cards and they have never given me any issues like this, so very upset for such a high priced gaming specific card. Its hooked with a brand new PSU and build and everything is correct.
